Radmila Shekerinska, Minister of Defense

Radmila Shekerinska is the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia and Minister of Defense.

Sekerinska was born on June 10, 1972, in Skopje.

Radmila Sekerinska holds a master's degree from the prestigious Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in the United States, which she obtained in 2007, being awarded Master of International Relations. She graduated at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the St. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje in 1995. At the beginning of her career, in the preiod from 1997 to 2002, Sekerinska worked as an Assistant at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

On May 31, 2017, Shekerinska was elected Minister of Defense of the Republic of Macedonia. At the first session of the Government, on June 5, 2017, she was elected Vice Prime Minister in the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.

Representative of the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia in the Parliament in four mandates. Head of the National Council for European Integration since the establishment in 2008, until 2014.

In 2009 and 2012, appointed Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission for the presidential and parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.

In 2008, she was elected one of the Vice-Presidents of the Socialist International (SI), a post she held until 2011. Member of the Presidency of the Party of European Socialists (PES), which brings together the Socialist, Social Democratic, Labour and Democratic Parties from all over Europe.

In the period 2002 to 2006, Sekerinska served as Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in charge of European Integration and Coordinator for Foreign Assistance. In that capacity, she prepared the candidacy of the Republic of Macedonia for membership in the European Union and guided the process of internal preparations for securing candidate status. At that time, the Republic of Macedonia was granted a status of candidate country for accession to the European Union.

On November 5, 2006, she was elected President of the Social Democratic Union of the Republic of Macedonia, holding that position until 2008. With this, she becomes the only female leader of one of the major political parties in the Republic of Macedonia.

Sekerinska is winner of the Young Global Leader Award, awarded by the World Economic Forum. The award was given for her engagement and commitment in the field of European integration in the Western Balkans.

Member of the Munich Young Leaders group formed at the Munich Security Conference. Also member of the European Strategic Forum, the Advisory Board of the Schengen White List project and the Council of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy.
