U.S. donation consisting of equipment and training in amount of 104 thousand dollars was handed over Monday to the Interior Ministry-MoI's Sector for Internal Control and Professional Standards.

A donation letter was signed by Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska and U.S. Ambassador Paul Wohlers, who voiced assurance that the donation would strengthen the capacities and performances of MoI's unit while executing special investigative measures, especially in the fight against corruption. Jankuloska said the donation would improve probes into more complex corruption-related cases in line with practices carried out in developed countries.

"The donation intended for MoI - a package of specialized investigative equipment - is an invaluable assistance in modernizing the sector and in enhancing our combat against corruption," the Minister said thanking for the donation.

Ambassador Wohlers stated that the fight against corruption was of paramount importance for the government of Macedonia to enhance rule of law at every level across the country.

"A positive sign has been sent with the arrests made recently and the criminal charges filed considering corruption cases. Public prosecutors are now accountable of making strong cases, while courts should organise hearings in a just manner," Wohlers said.

The donation comes as a result of the cooperation between the U.S. Department of Justice and MoI through the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP).
