Documentary about Macedonian folk singer Vanja Lazarova promoted

The documentary film "Vanja Lazarova (born in pain)" premiered Wednesday at the Cinematheque of Macedonia. The film, written and directed by Sinisha Eftimov and produced by Media Broadcasting and Macedonian Film Agency, is dedicated to the life of Macedonian legendary folk singer, Vanja Lazarova.

In the film Vanja talks about the song that is her life - both when she was at home with loved ones and when she performed on world stages. Full of enthusiasm at the age of 85 she said that her biggest wish is to hold a concert.

Musicians who worked with her speak in the film and for all of them Vanja is not only voice but also emotion. Zlatko Origjanski says her voice include all possible styles and ways of singing in Macedonian music. Vlatko Stefanovski said that her voice is the most beautiful soundtrack of the most beautiful Macedonia and cultural heritage, which subtly addresses us and tells us about our identity. According to Esma Redzepova-Teodosievska Vanja Lazarova is unattainable singer, who is born in a hundred years. Director Milcho Manchevski says that film music in "Before the Rain", with which Lazarova collaborated with the group "Anastasia" became one of the iconic, archetypal moments of his film in 1994 which won the "Golden Lion" award in Venice.

The film is a presentation of her current old age life, intermingled with her career of sixty years. Composed of statements made by the living witnesses of her long career, archive footage and photos, the film is a portrait of the biggest living voice of the Macedonian folk song. The film unites her stellar moments of life.

Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska, who attended film premiere, said the documentary will be lasting testimony to the value and Macedonian music legend Vanja Lazarova for her life, for her entire works and everything she left as valuable and artistic culture for the country. I want to express my gratitude for her tremendous contribution to our culture and art, Kanceska-Milevska said.

The testimonies of the people who knew her professionally and in private, interwoven with her life today in the institution which represents the last station in life, enriched with the archive material, will create a vivid, dynamic and rich biographical film. In the twilight of her life, the song continues to be her constant preoccupation. She sings every day, filling the long retirement days with the beauty of the Macedonian music.

She has sung hundreds of Macedonian original traditional songs, most of them were recorded and produced by the Macedonian Radio Television. She has worked with the opera within the Macedonian National Theater, was a member of the national ensemble for traditional dances and songs "Tanec" and performed many concerts throughout the world.
