PM Gruevski: Government, ruling party will not hinder Special Prosecutor's work, expect her to act swiftly

The Government and VMRO-DPMNE as a political party will not be an obstacle to the work of the Special Prosecutor and expect her to start acting as soon as possible, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski told TV Channel 5 on Saturday.

"VMRO-DPMNE is eager to see the Special Prosecutor to start working, as we are aware that we have done nothing illegal and wish for a confirmation to that effect as soon as possible," Gruevski said.

The Government and VMRO-DPMNE are ready to meet all of the Special Prosecutor's requests, he added.

However, the call of (Katica) Janeva on approved prosecutors to not swear in and altering of her position on commencing the Special Prosecutor's work raise concern, Gruevski said.

"We all know that taking an oath is a legal obligation and when the head of such institution (Special Prosecutor's Office) urges own assistants to not swear in, namely to not respect the law, than that is a reason for concern, as we all expect for the Special Prosecutor to be a law-abiding champion. This move raises the question whether this person will respect the laws in the future" Gruevski said.

Another reason for concern is altering of Janeva's decision after half of her assistants were endorsed. Namely she initially said she would keep working with only seven assistants and on the next day revised her decision, saying she would not work until all 14 members of her team got approval. It raises the issue of her independency in terms of decision-making, Gruevski said.

"We shall take al of these as a beginner's error and monitor her work," he added.
