The reconstruction of 63 bridges along Macedonia’s stretch of Corridor 10, funded by NATO and KFOR, has been completed.

With the bridge reconstruction project, implemented together with NATO, Macedonia is getting a new and improved infrastructure along Corridor 10, Minister of Transport and Communications Vlado Misajlovski said at a ceremony on Veles-Skopje highway marking the completion of the project.

Macedonia and NATO, he recalled, started cooperating in 2005 after the Ministry of Transport and Communications and NATO officials had signed a memorandum of understanding to repair the road infrastructure in Macedonia.

KFOR Brigadier General Ferenc Korom said NATO had supported the reconstruction of bridges because Corridor 10 was considered ‘very important for KFOR and for Macedonia.”

“This corridor is deemed important for KFOR, it is the main supplying route from the Port of Thessaloniki in Greece, via Macedonia, to the border with Kosovo. I’m satisfied with how the project has been implemented and I hope that now the reconstructed bridges will benefit both KFOR and the civil transportation in your country,” stressed the KFOR Brigadier General.

According to Minister Misajlovski, the reconstruction of bridges is one of the many ongoing projects aimed at improving the road infrastructure in Macedonia.

Over EUR 300 million are invested in projects realized along Corridor 10, he said. “A modern highway on Corridor 10 will be built soon that is going to meet all international standards.”

“Reconstruction of the road infrastructure is crucial for Macedonia’s economic development and as a result, the government has kicked off an investment cycle estimated at billion euros to build a solid road infrastructure,” he noted.
