Gruevski: Greece not interested in overcoming differences

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski considers that Saturday’s responds by the Greek PM Lucas Papademos and President of the Greece’s New Democracy party Antonis Samaras are the most radical positions of Greece in its history regarding the name issue.

The positions presented by Prime Minister and Samaras refusal to meet are acts, which point out that they have no intention to deal with this problem. They avoid meetings in every way and on every possible level, PM Gruevski said answering journalist question after cornerstone laying ceremony for construction of new “Stiv Naumov” student dormitory in Skopje.

If international community would make a pressure on them, Prime Minister considered that according to intentions they are showing in this period they would be pretend to negotiate because if one wants sincerely to meet, it will do it without anyone making pressure. – One who is concerned for the situation and wants to resolve an issue, it will not wait for a pressure and afterwards to pretend to negotiate, to be very generous and make great efforts, but the other side is very rigid, Gruevski said.

He said that any talks are sabotaged with ultra radical positions and for which they know in advance that would not be accepted by anyone in Macedonia neither from authority nor from the opposition, literally by nobody. I am considerably concerned of Greece’s behavior and this position is obviously with intention of holding no talks. If the talks would begin in the following period according to what I see how they are behaving it would be so called blame game i.e. they would try to show in every way how hard they are trying, but that we are not thankful for those efforts and do not respond adequately, Gruevski said.

He also expressed concern that this new political team in Greece not only that does not have sense for this issue but also makes step backwards.

Regarding journalist question to comment speculations on possible Greece abandoning the Interim Agreement, Gruevski said that two persons who are commenting this issue are in a way in direct correlation with the Greek Foreign Ministry and it is intended for the rest and not for us.

Gruevski did not want to comment the possibility Macedonia to become NATO member at the Summit in Chicago on May.

It was obvious that member-states at the Bucharest Summit passed decision, which was a result of previous illegal steps of their member. From this aspect we will see how this will be respected by the Alliance, he said.

Gruevski underlined that even after Hague-based International Court of Justice ruling Greece still shows that it does not intend to resolve name issue.

Whether NATO will show respect towards International Court of Justice we will see in May at the NATO Summit in Chicago, PM Nikola Gruevski stated.
