DM Besimi attends Munisch Security Conference

Defense Minister Fatmir Besimi attended Sunday the 48. Munich Security Conference (MSC).

The main topics of this year conference are the financial crisis and its implications for international security, smart defense concept, the EU, and the future of the transatlantic alliance, building the new Middle East, cybersecurity and many others.

At the MSC sidelines, Besimi held talks with his British, Danish and Croatian counterparts on bilateral cooperation and contribution to peace missions, the DM's Cabinet said in a press release.

At the bilateral meetings Besimi reaffirmed the significance of Macedonia's accession to NATO, saying that this matter should be a subject of discussion at forthcoming NATO summit in Chicago.  He pointed out that the Euro-Atlantic integration of Southeastern European countries would be in favor of both the region and the Alliance.

His colleagues confirmed their support of Macedonia's NATO membership and voiced satisfaction with the excellent cooperation, the press release reads.
