Macedonians to travel to Montenegro only with IDs, ministers Jankuloska and Brajovic say

Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska and her Montenegrin counterpart Ivan Brajovic signed Friday several agreements on joint cooperation between the two ministries, with the Police Cooperation Agreement being the most significant.

Macedonia and Montenegro are two friendly countries having no open issues, but they share many joint interests in relation to the fight against corruption and crime, Macedonian Minister Jankuloska said.

The Police Cooperation Agreement, she added, aims at heightening the efficiency of joint police operations and information sharing that play a substantial role in being successful in the combat against crime.

The agreements on cooperation during the tourist season, returning of persons who are staying illegally and the Readmission Protocol are of great significance, according to Jankuloska and Brajovic.

The Montenegrin Interior Minister said the ministries by signing the accords had affirmed their exceptionally good cooperation.

"The Police Cooperation Agreement is crucial because it formally acknowledges the desire for eradicating all kinds of crime, said Ivan Brajovic adding that the Skopje conference on border security in SEE had demonstrated that a lot was done in modernizing and controlling border crossings.

Ministers Jankuloska and Brajovic announced that a law on crossing countries' borders with only an ID was being drafted and that most likely it would enter into force this coming tourist season.

The 9th Annual Ministerial Conference on Cooperation in the field of Border Security in South Eastern Europe (SEE) resumes today in Skopje.

A Ministerial Declaration on Cooperation in the field of Border Security in South Eastern Europe in 2012 is expected to be signed.
