Deputy PM Xhaferi meets NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General Shea

Deputy PM in charge of Ohrid Framework Agreement Implementation Musa Xhaferi during his visit to Brussels met with NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General Jamie Shea.

Xhaferi and Shea discussed about current political developments in the country, reforms in different spheres with the focus on implementation of Ohrid Framework Agreement.

Interlocutors agreed that full implementation of this peace agreement is one of the key pillars for Macedonia's integration in the Euro-Atlantic structures and the adequate representation of the Albanians in security organs guarantees stability, Xhaferi's cabinet informs.

Xhaferi stressed that Macedonia's membership in NATO remains priority of the government in its activities. Taking into consideration the fact that Shea is well-informed on developments in the Western Balkans he was interested concretely about current political developments in the region whereat he emphasized that faster integration of Macedonia in NATO will open perspectives for the entire region.

Shea pointed out that Macedonia should resolve name dispute with Greece aimed at joining NATO faster.

During the visit to Brussels, Xhaferi will hold meetings with Robert Cooper, EU foreign policy councillor on the Middle East and the Balkans, Miroslav Lajcak, Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Neighbourhood and the Western Balkans, Richard Howitt, EP Rapporteur for Macedonia and MEP Jorgo Chatzimarkakis.

Moreover, Xhaferi is to deliver an address on topic "The Republic of Macedonia, a candidate country for EU and NATO - 10 years after the Ohrid Agreement" at the conference organised by the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
