130 volumes of Macedonian literature donated to the national library in Zagreb

The Zagreb-based national and university library, which preserves valuable artifacts from the Croatian and world literature, enriched Friday its fund with the English edition of the "130 Volumes of Macedonian Literature".

It was donated by Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Macedonia and Croatia.

In her address at the event, Kanceska-Milevska said that the major literary project had reflected the centuries-long aspiration to safeguard  the national and cultural identity.

The Minister thanked for Croatia's support and friendship.

"Croatia is our great friend and partner, not only in the field of culture - where an exchange has been established between artists -  but also it is our supporter at political and economic level and of Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic integration bid," Kanceska-Milevska stressed.

Macedonia's piano virtuoso Simon Trpceski will perform with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday evening. The concert has been sold out for a month.

The Macedonian literature has a historic connection with Croatia - two significant Macedonian books, the Miladonov Brothers' Collection in 1861 and "White Dawns" by poet Koco Racin in 1939 - were published in Croatia.
