London to host Days of Macedonian Culture in May

The culture of Macedonia will be presented in London in the frameworks of the Cultural Olympiad, organized ahead of the Summer Olympic Games in the British capital. British audiences from May 3 to 14 will have the chance to meet with Macedonian musicians, artists and writers.

The Days of Macedonian Culture start on May 3 with a concert by pianist Simon Trpceski at the Royal Festival Hall. The Museum of Contemporary Art at the Pall Mall gallery will present works by renowned Macedonian artists between May 6-12. The Bitola National Theater is going to perform William Shakespeare's Henry VI Part 3 at a festival in his honor, where 37 theaters from all around the world will perform his famous plays at the Globe Theater. Macedonia's folk music will be presented by Stefce Stojkovski and his ensemble, whereas national literature will have its presentation through the edition "130 books of Macedonian literature" translated into English.

"Cosmopolitan London, this year's cultural navel of the world, will rekindle the spirit of unity and creativity by making a dialogue with countries from all corners of the world. The idea and vision of Pierre de Coubertin - the father of the modern Olympic Games - will be realised in London for a global Olympic movement as a combination of sports, culture and world languages. In the myriad of events, British audiences and foreign visitors will have the chance to meet the irresistible representatives of Macedonia's culture," Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska told a press conference on Friday.

In addition to his concert at the Cultural Olympiad, Simon Trpceski will hold three more performances in the UK on May 1,2 and 4.

The exhibition representing Macedonian contemporary artists is dubbed "Made in Macedonia" and includes works by Antoni Maznevski, Tome Adzieski, Atanas Atanasovski, Blagoja Manevski, OPA group, Ismet Ramicevic, Vana Urosevic, Iva Dimeska, Aleksandra Perusevska, Jovan Sumkovski, Simon Semov and Zaneta Vangeli.

Henry VI Part 3 by Shakespeare will be performed by a cast of 13 actors from the Bitola National Theater in Macedonian. The other two parts will be performed by theaters from Serbia and Albania at the festival paying homage to Shakespeare.

Macedonian literature will be presented by Goran Stefanovski, Venko Andonovski and Svetlana Hristova-Jocic, who are scheduled to attend the launch of 130 books of Macedonian literature translated into English.

The Stefce Stojkovski ensemble is planned to perform traditional Macedonian songs and dances and to present national dresses from the country.
