Indian billionaire Roy plans large investment in Macedonia

India's billionaire Subrata Roy will invest in Macedonia. According to him, the investment is large without revealing the amount, in the field of production for export or tourism-related.

Roy presented his plans after Friday's meeting with Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and the Government's economic team, who briefed him on the investment opportunities in Macedonia, with details to follow in the coming days.

"I am planning to establish a business here, in the field of production intended for export or something that attracts tourists. I would invest in something big, because I feel good here and we are a big company", said Roy at a joint press conference with Vice Premier and Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski.

He did not say what could be the amount of such investment, adding they have not come to Macedonia for small things.

"We started with 40 dollars in 1978 and now we are worth 25 billion", said Roy.

He also announced an investment in a statue of Mother Teresa.

FinMin Stavreski said the Indian businessmen expressed interest in numerous fields, such as agriculture, processing industry, tourism, construction, real estate, tourism zones, as well as mineral raw materials.

"This visit is another proof that the Government's efforts of presenting Macedonia as a favorable business destination yield results", he stressed.

Stavreski added that the Government aimed to leave a good impression, so that investors feel they are coming to a country that meets all international standards for business start-up.

Subrata Roy employs two million people and has a capital of US$65 billion. His diversified business has interest in financial services, housing finance, mutual funds, life insurance, city development, real estate activities, print and television media, film production, sports, information technology, health care, tourism, hospitality and consumer products.
