Macedonian culture presented in Maribor

The audience at a theater in Maribor gave the cast of the Skopje Drama Theater a standing ovation after performing its production of "Hamlet".

The presentation of Macedonia's culture in the frameworks of the manifestation "Maribor 2012: European Capital of Culture" wrapped up with the play "Hamlet", directed by Dejan Projkovski and starring Dejan Lilic in the titular role.

Speaking at the closing event, Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said the participation at the European Capital of Culture was essential because it offered an opportunity for presenting a country's culture.

"This evening, Macedonia and Slovenia are building yet another symbolic bridge of their identities, their quite similar historical and spiritual memories in the cache of the European culture," she said.

On Tuesday, the Minister met with the director of the European Capital of Culture, Suzana Zilic Fisher, who expressed content with the fact that Macedonia's culture was part of this important manifestation.

Kanceska-Milevska as part of her day-long visit to Slovenia also met with the Slovenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Ziga Turk. The interlocutors confirmed the current successful cooperation between the countries in the field of culture and art.

In Ljubljana, Minister Kanceska-Milevska visited the National and University Library, for talks with its director Mateja Komel Snoj on future cooperation between countries' institutions. She donated the edition "130 Volumes of Macedonian Literature in English" to the institution.

During her stay, the Minister also met with the chairperson of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, Andreja Rihter to discuss current projects by the ministry as its member.

The presentation of Macedonia's culture in Maribor also included concerts by percussionist Zoran Madzirov and his band and La Colonie Volvox.
