FinMin Stavreski promises inflow of fresh foreign capital in support of Macedonia’s economy

We shall not remain without measures, instruments by which, within everything at our disposal, we shall work on mitigating the consequences of Europe's economic crisis, says Vice-Premier and FinMin Zoran Stavreski, who is attending the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank annual meeting in Tokyo.

"We shall make attempts to bring fresh foreign capital, including the World Bank, in order to solidify the liquidity of (Macedonia's) economy. The (state) obligations to the business sector will be serviced on time, as the Prime Minister said, in favor of improving the liquidity of the private sector. We shall raise the income of those hardest-hit by the crisis, i.e. the social categories, pensions and subsidies," Stavreski said on Thursday.

At the same time, the Government will do its best to maintain the capital investments at the higher level, he added.

Starting from today, Macedonia's delegation, including Stavreski and National Bank Governor Dimitar Bogov, is attending the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank annual meeting in Tokyo.

On the event's sidelines, Stavreski is scheduled to meet WB Vice-President Philippe Le Houerou, IMF Executive Director Meno Snell and other senior officials of these financial institutions.

The Annual Meetings of IMF and WB Group each year bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness. Also featured are seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and many other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world's financial system.
