Minister Jankuloska, U.S. Ambassador Wohlers attend promotion of trainings for border patrol agents

Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska and the U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia, Paul Wohlers attended Monday a promotion of new trainings for border agents for patrolling along the green border as part of the U.S. Embassy Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS).

Striving to attain essential border security in order to tackle all forms of transnational crime, the Interior Ministry has been focused on functional implementation of the integrated border management system, according to Minister Jankuloska.

"For us, this primarily means effective border control, which won't threaten the flow of passengers and goods in being more dynamic," Jankuloska said thanking the American partners for the continuous support and assistance in the process of institutional reforming aimed at integrating Macedonia in Euro-Atlantic organisations as soon as possible.

She stated that the training's goal was to further educate border patrol agents, who in the future in their capacity as trainers would transfer their knowledge to their colleagues.

"Education and continuous training of the human potential is one of the foundations for systematic capacity building," Jankuloska noted.

U.S. Ambassador Wohler said the training sessions were a joint commitment of MoI and the U.S. embassy in Skopje aiming at improving border police capacities.

"The United States will support Macedonia's achievements in the field of border security through our program," Wohlers urged.

The EXBS program is being implemented in Macedonia for 8 years by providing support and donations in amount of nearly 900 thousand US dollars.
