Gruevski, Jassim al-Thani review possibilities for Qatari investments in Macedonia

Further advancing of the Macedonian-Qatari relations, in particular the economic ones and possibilities for direct Qatari investments in Macedonia were main topics of Tuesday talks between the Prime Ministers of both countries Nikola Gruevski and Sheik Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani respectively.

Macedonia and Qatar are friends and this meeting is yet another confirmation for the successful upward trend in advancing the overall relations, Gruevski told reporters.

The energy, tourism, food processing and other sectors were notified at the meeting as potential for Qatari investments, Gruevski said. The PMs also tackled a possibility of introducing direct Skopje-Doha flight.

The Qatari delegation was briefed about the Macedonian Government's reforms and achived results, which offer favorable climate for start-up and development of profitable business, Gruevski said.

Today's meeting will contribute to intensifying the contacts and speeding up the procedures related to concrete economic projects, he added.

An opening of Qatari Embassy in Skopje will also give solid impetus to boosting the cooperation between the two friendly countries, especially the economic one, Gruevski said.

Today, representatives of the Macedonian and Qatari health care sector and economic chambers signed memos of cooperation.

"The documents, signed today and earlier, present a proof that we have been setting a solid base for cooperation between Qatar and Macedonia in terms of investments, agriculture, hydro-energy, education and high-tech. We are encouraged by ongoing reforms in Macedonia and advancing of the business climate, which is appropriate for starting up a business here," Jassim al-Thani said.
