Jankuloska: Migration is not limitation, but freedom

Migration does not mean limitation, but freedom, mobility, creativity and development, whereas benefits can be best recognized in the visa liberalization, which has enabled an increased flow of people, ideas, cultural and social interweaving, said Minister of Interior Gordana Jankuloska in Friday's address at an Istanbul conference in the framework of the Budapest process dedicated to migration partnership of countries within the 'silk road'.

"In order for Macedonian citizens to use this essential benefit in the future, the Government has continually undertaken energetic measures towards reducing the number of false asylum seekers", said Jankuloska.

According to her, Macedonia is committed to efficient management of migration processes and building an active, consistent migration strategy, taking into account the country's national, social, economic and cultural development.

"This is a policy based on the principles of human rights and freedoms' respect and protection, solidarity, long-term macroeconomic benefit etc", added Jankuloska.

She said the Istanbul conference represented an excellent opportunity for perception of migration processes and their sustainable and continual management.

"The Istanbul declaration is a proof of our commitment in this regard, whereas this partnership gives us the opportunity to improve the conditions for legal migration, but also mobility, prevention of illegal migration, facilitating the readmission procedures, as well as effective fight against human trafficking. The declaration represents an essential standard that gives us the direction on how to be more effective through joint cooperation, recognizing the new challenges and defining our future actions", stressed Minister Jankuloska.

The conference brings together ministers of home affairs from EU member-states, as well as counterparts from Albania, Montenegro, Switzerland, Bosnia&Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Russian Federation.
