International scholarships for fine arts and free completion of high school education

Scholarships to study at some of world's top universities and specialized schools of fine arts and free completion of high school education in Macedonia are new measures taken by the government aimed at providing quality education for the citizens.

Government spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgiev told a press conference on Thursday that the government at a session had reached a decision to award scholarships to students who would enroll in some of the world-renowned universities or schools of film, music and art.

"Those students who will receive scholarship are obligated after graduating to work in Macedonia for a period that is twice as long as the time spent to finish their studies abroad at an university or specialized school," Gjorgiev said.

Next week, the Ministry of Education and Science will issue a list of world-renowned universities and schools where students could use the government's scholarship. An open call to apply for scholarship will be also issued soon after.

"The government has also reached a decision enabling citizens to complete their high school education free of charge as of 2013/2014 school year, he added.

Annually, somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 people aged 20-35 enrol in high schools to complete their education.

"The measure provides huge support to a number of people who want to complete their high school education," said the spokesman.
