Russian film cycle in Macedonian cities

Russian film cycle titled "War and Peace in Russian Film" will be held May 9-14 in cities throughout Macedonia, where digital projectors have been installed within the project for revival of cinemas, initiated by the Government, the Ministry of Culture and the Film Fund.

Six films will be screened: "The Star" by Nikolay Lebedev, "Liberation" by Yuri Ozerov, "The Cranes are Flying" by Mikhail Kalatozov, "The Priest" by Vladimir Khotinenko, "One War" by Vera Glagoleva, and "We Are from the Future" by Andrey Malyukov.

"Our cultural ties will enhance through the project, but also by the opening of Macedonian and Russian cultural centers in both countries", said Culture Minister Kanceska-Milevska at Wednesday's press conference.

New digital projectors have been installed in the centers of culture in Kocani, Kumanovo, Negotino, Struga, Ohrid, Kicevo, Prilep, Veles, Tetovo, Gostivar, Strumica, Kriva Palanka and Debar.

"This project has enriched cultural offer in these cities, with over 90,000 viewers having the opportunity to see Macedonian film 'The Third Half'", said Kanceska-Milevska.

According to her, the Government has also decided to procure such equipment for the culture centers in Kratovo, Radovis, Resen and Probistip.

Russian Ambassador to Macedonia Oleg Shcherbak said the Week of Russian Film themed War and Peace would be held in several cities, which made the project unique.

"I am convinced Macedonian viewers will like the films. There is great symbolism that the Russian film revue begins on May 9 - the 68. anniversary from the victory over fascism. This week will serve as a reminder of all difficulties of war and the victims that nations have laid on the altar of victory", stressed Ambassador Shcherbak.
