PM Gruevski: Ruling party doesn't favor early elections, which may happen if new development makes them necessary

The ruling VMRO-DPMNE party doesn't favor early elections, but they may happen if a new development makes them necessary, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski told reporters on Tuesday.

"We are not in the mood for early elections, although the situation on the ground is favorable for VMRO-DPMNE. In this case we would certainly score a victory. We believe that we should focus on further implementation of the program. We however do not rule out the possibility for early elections if a new development forces us to do so," Gruevski said after a meeting with partners of the ruling coalition 'For Better Macedonia'.

The meeting also tackled Skopje-Athens row over Macedonia's constitutional name. Leader of Democratic Party of Serbs Ivan Stoiljkovic, on the behalf of the coalition, underlined Macedonia's wish to open the doors wider for the name negotiations with Greece. Both the Government and the coalition wish for the process to be completed, Stoiljkovic said.

All of these have been elaborated in my letter to Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, Gruevski said, adding that Macedonia expects an international support for the name row settlement.

The PM also expressed hope that the other party (Greece) would express a good will for his initiative, presented in the letter to Samaras.
