Final training of basketball team prior to European Championship in Slovenia

Macedonia’s basketball team held final training session Saturday in “Boris Trajkovski” sports centre prior leaving for Slovenia at the European Championship which begins on Sep. 4. Besides many fans also Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski arrived to see basketball players off and to wish them to accomplish good results.

Gruevski on this occasion recommended fans that they should always support athletes, members of the national teams and clubs from Macedonia regardless against whom they play and of the result.

He also said that the fans should not stop encourage home team even when it loses, because the cheering will give them support and strength to win.

Gruevski added that it is not good the sport to be mixed with the politics and games to have inter-ethnic tensions. I call all of us to be united and to cheer our team and our clubs, he emphasised. He also pointed out that the government is preparing changes in the Law on Sport for prevention of such occurrences and new sanctions for those who will violate sporting spirit at sport events.

The participation of the Macedonian national team at the European Basketball Championship in Slovenia is part of the celebration of the Independence Day – Sep. 8 which is in spirit of sport events which will last for a week.
