Disputes to be settled swiftly and more economically through mediation

The government has adopted a draft-law on mediation envisaging major and essential reforms of the judicial system, its spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgiev said Saturday.

The law, prepared in line with the best practices applied around the world, contains an array of novelties that will allow disputes to be settled in a more efficient, swift and economical fashion.

With the mediation process, the courts will be relieved of bulk of proceedings.

"Mandatory introduction of mediation in courts in certain cases, provision of state subsidies for certain mediation cases, strengthening of the Chamber of Mediators and establishment of a Mediation Board are some of the novelties included in the law," Gjorgiev said.

Under the law, the mediation process will last no more than 180 days, according to the spokesman.
