AEC starts construction of telecommunications tower

The Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC) has launched the construction of a telecommunications tower at the top of Vodno hill, including an antenna system for monitoring and control of radio-frequencies.

The 155-meter-tall tower is worth EUR 18 million, allocated by AEC.

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, AEC leadership, and representatives of telecommunications operators and broadcasters attended Thursday the cornerstone-laying ceremony.

"The very fact that the tower will be twice as taller than the Millennium Cross says enough about the building. It will be the tallest building in all of Macedonia, but also a new attraction in Skopje through its modern design", said PM Gruevski.

AEC director Robert Ordanoski stressed the antenna system for control and monitoring of radio-frequencies would enable increased quality and care for users.

"This will contribute to the reduction of interference, which is of exceptional significance for protection of the aviation radio-navigation service", added Ordanoski.

AEC used experiences from regional countries in the antenna system project.
