Government to grant severence pay, social package to OHIS employees

Macedonia's Government provided funds for severance pay and social package for the employees of Skopje company 'OHIS', thus meeting the trade union's demands, Government Spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgiev told a press conference on Wednesday.

The Government has provided a total of Denar 107 million for this purpose. The minimal severance pay for an employee is at EUR 1.400, as requested by the trade union and the company's management, Gjorgiev said.

Pece Ristovski, leader of the Trade Union of Metal and Energy Workers, said this solution would enable OHIS employees to survive, considering the fact that they have been deprived of their salaries for the last 24 months. They will be able to service their debts, obtain compensation by the Agency of Employment and health insurance, Ristovski said.

OHIS Director Leko Ristevski said 65 people would remain engaged to take care for the company’s security and maintenance of its energy and fire protection systems.

The Government's Economic-Social Council at its session will address the possibilities for the future status of the loss-making company OHIS, whose debt at the moment is at EUR 20 million.
