Construction of new Turkish Theater building kicks off

Turkish Theater in Skopje is to get own building that will fully meet the technical and aesthetic-architectural standards. The new building is Government's project, being realized by the Ministry of Culture.

The new building will have five above ground and three underground storeys and two halls with a capacity of over 450 and 150 seats respectively. It also includes a gallery, cultural-information centre and multimedia hall.

The building is above all designed as a centre for promotion of the Turkish culture, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said Saturday at the ground-breaking ceremony.

"The art is not a product, but a process. Our task is to support this process by regular investing in the development of culture and cultural exchange with other countries. The building, which construction is kicking off today, is yet another example of the intensive cultural cooperation between Macedonia and Turkey," Gruevski said.

Another project that will contribute to that effect is the reconstruction of the house of Kemal Ataturk's parents in the village of Kodjadjic, he said.

The construction of a new theater turns a dream of many generations of Turkish actors into reality, Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said.

Turkish Vice-Premier Emrullah Isler said the new building would serve to many future generations.

Since its establishment in 1950, the Turkish Theater in Skopje has been under the same roof with the Albanian Theater.
