Six-member group smuggling migrants arrested

Police arrested a six-member group which smuggled migrants from Greece via Macedonia to Serbia for a longer period of time, Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska said at Sunday’s press conference.

Thirty eight-years-old U.V. from Kavadarci is the organizer of the group, who together with 26-years-old R.R.M from Pakistan, an asylum seeker in Macedonia, were smuggling illegal migrants, she said.

A policeman E.B. (39) from Kavadarci, employed in the Sector for Control at Bogorodica border crossing, was helping the criminal group.

The rest of the criminal group S.B. (39), M.F. (38) and A.K. (22) all from Kavadarci were transporting the illegal migrants. Two cars transporting nine migrants, among whom 3 children, were caught by the police Saturday at Veles pay toll.

Criminal charges were brought against all six suspects to the Basic Public Prosecutor Office and the judge issued a custody order.
