Gruevski: Integration of ethnic communities in all areas

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski met Wednesday with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Astrid Thors.

The meeting was focused on several topics in relation to joint cooperation, reforms, multi-ethnic society and ethnic communities and implementation of criteria, including realization of projects aimed at strengthening mutual trust.

PM Gruevski said the Government had been dedicated in making efforts and taking measures to promote the integration of different ethnic communities in all areas of life in a bid to provide long-term cohesion of the Macedonian society, the Government's PR Sector said in a press release. He stressed that education served as a basic element in this regard and accordingly its development and improvement would continue being included in the top priorities of the new government.

Speaking with the OSCE high official, PM Gruevski reaffirmed the Government's commitment in implementing the Ohrid Framework Agreement. It was highlighted that significant progress had been made in the sphere of equitable representation of all ethnic communities, which was contributing to building mutual trust and focusing the capacities towards making social progress.

The interlocutors also discussed current challenges and ways to overcome them that could additionally contribute to relaxing relations, which required engagement from all relevant factors in addressing them.

PM Gruevski said the Government remained committed to strengthening the capacities of institutions and support of processes paving the way toward improvement. He noted that Macedonia would continue cooperating with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities and her office and relying on their expertise in this field, stated the press release.
