Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and Director of the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe, Zsuzsanna Jakab, shared opinions Monday in Skopje on Macedonia's Government health care policies, strategic goals and activities, as well as the cooperation in several spheres.

The Government has been paying great attention to improving the health of citizens and health care reforms, which are among its top priorities, Gruevski said.

"Last year to that effect the Committee on Health and Environment was set up, which creates the Government's policies and suggests reform measures for further advancing of these spheres," the PM said.

He briefed Jakab about the launch of the campaign for promoting healthy diet, lifestyle, aimed to protect the citizens' health and hence reduce the risks of various diseases.

Gruevski also referred to other reforms in this sector, such as training of doctors abroad and exchange of medical staff, reconstructing, equipping of hospitals and improving of the health care services.

Jakab welcomed the reform progress, expressing her support for the Committee on Health and Environment. The fact that the Prime Minister is the Committee's chair demonstrates the Government's commitment to taking effective measures for preserving the citizens' health and advancing the health care system, Jakab said.

She also commended the government's campaign for healthy diet and lifestyle, expressing belief that it would yield solid results.

She also expressed readiness for bolstering the WHO-Macedonia's Government cooperation in regard to drafting a national health strategy for the next few years. WHO is ready to share its expertise and support the implementation of this strategy, as well as to boost the cooperation in other spheres of mutual interest, Jakab said.
