FM Poposki: Intensive diplomacy in light of EU summit

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will intensify its activities in light of the European Council meeting in December, but also afterwards, because the country needs to start EU talks, Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki said on Tuesday.

"We have regular communication with European institutions and member-states. We will dedicate the biggest energy to the December summit and the key reason for our standstill over the past five years, i.e. lack of support by our southern neighbor in reaching consensus at the summit. Our activities will be intensive up to the December summit, but also afterwards, since Macedonia needs to start EU talks, which the Union has also noted", FM Poposki told journalists after a meeting with chairs of the country's chambers of commerce.

He expects Macedonia to get the required support from UN member-states over its seat in the organization's Human Rights Council at today's vote.

"Our main objective is to contribute to the global promotion of human rights, believing that the international law principles that Macedonia promotes will truly make the country a prominent member of the UN Human Rights Council", stressed Poposki.
