The President of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev and the US Secretary of State, Michael R. Pompeo, had a tête à tête meeting which was part of the one-day official visit to our country. Previously, US Secretary of State met the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski.
This tête à tête meeting was immediately followed by a bilateral meeting and both interlocutors were joined by the Deputy President of the Government and Minister of Defence, Radmila Shekerinska, the Deputy President of the Government in charge of European Affairs, Bujar Osmani and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov.
At this meeting the interlocutors discussed the projection for development of cooperation between the two strategic partners, underlying the potential for further enhancement of economic relations and attracting new American investments in the country.
Special focus was paid to the successful cooperation and partnership in the domain of defence, especially between the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Vermont National Guard, as well as within the frames of the military missions ISAF and “Resolute Support” in Afghanistan.
Furthermore, the delegation of the Government and US Secretary of State and his associates, underlined that the strong and continuous American support shall continue in the process of finalizing of the procedure for full-fledged NATO membership and the progress of Republic of North Macedonia in its EU membership process.
During the bilateral meeting, the interlocutors discussed the issues referring to stabilization and prosperity of the region with Washington as main promoter of the enlargement policy of the Alliance with the countries from the Adriatic Charter.
